Automated Coffee Robot: Sizing Notes Before You Buy

Cups per hour, dose repeatability, milk cleaning and water treatment decide whether a coffee robot survives daily service. A short sizing note with the full guide.

A coffee robot is a production cell, not a vending machine with a nicer shell. Before comparing menus, fix the number that decides everything else: cups per hour at peak.

Four numbers to settle first

  • Cups per hour at peak, plus 20% headroom for seasonal spikes
  • Dose repeatability in grams: above plus/minus 0.3 g per shot shows up as inconsistent taste across a shift
  • Milk cleaning time: if a full strip-down is needed daily, it will be skipped
  • Water hardness: scale is what kills boilers, not workload

When a single unit stops being enough

Above roughly 80 cups per hour, manual cup placement becomes the bottleneck. At that point price the automatic cup dispenser into the project, not afterwards.

Running cost, not just purchase price

Budget 8-15% of the purchase price per year for filters, cleaning chemicals, descaling service and one set of wear parts. A cheap machine with poor water treatment is rarely cheap overall.
